Why a new edition of the documents of Vatican II? For eighteen years I have been involved in the translation and publication of official Church documents, including Vatican II and its aftermath. I have long felt that there is a need for a convenient and inexpensive book which would contain not only the sixteen Council documents but also as many as possible of the relevant subsequent official documents, especially those which are positive in their implementation or application of the original sixteen documents.
This is a companion volume to Vatican Council II: Conciliar and Post-Conciliar Documents. It contains 57 additional documents grouped under seven headings. For easy reference the numbering of the documents starts where the previous volume left off. The documents grouped under rdquo; Current Problems rdquo; deal with: the Council rsquo;s unfinished business; the matters discussed in the Pastoral Constitution of the Church in the Modern World; and the matters which have occasioned concern in the post-conciliar period. Included in the present volume are: 3 documents on education 4 documents on ecumenism 6 documents on ministry 6 documents from the Synod of Bishops 9 documents on religious life 13 documents on current problems 16 documents on the sacred liturgy The implementation of the documents and directives of the Second Vatican Council depends in great measure on the direction given by the official post-conciliar documents.
