Description
The author of the present volume has concentrated on the Laity’s role in the mission. He has based this on solid theology that speaks of the triple function of Jesus the Mediator between God and the humans. These roles are not to be carried out only by the ministerial priests or ministerial hierarchy in the Church but they are participated analogically by all in the Church including the laity. It is to the credit of the Council Vatican II (1962-65) that the irreplaceable role of the laity was recognized. Today more and more the laity are carrying out their part of the mission but the process is not complete. With the drastic decline in the number of the Clergy and the Religious men and women within the Church, in today’s Church the laity are taking up the roles that properly belong to them.
The Church needs to take notice and set in motion whatever needs to be changed and transform the laity into a potent agency of bearing witness to Christ. The author has tried to give the correct theological background for a renewal of the laity. This writing would benefit to take up seriously this task of revitalizing the laity and help them to realize their mission.
