PSALMIC ODES FROM APOSTOLIC TIMES PB
$ 2.28
Availability: Out of stock
SKU: 2012
Description
In the clutch of surviving writings from the New Testament dawn, these exquisitely rare 41 pieces of psalmic poetry were ‘re-discovered’ for what they were – probably early 2C processional prayer-chants – only in 1909. They are associated with the Wisdom tradition of Solomon, but scholars have laboured to work out where, and by whom, and in what language they were composed – New Testament Greek or Syriac, cousin of the Aramaic of Jesus. Some, mostly academic, translations are available in the West. However, this translation is by an Indian Cistercian monk, a first, and beautifully presented layout for personal or communal mediation or lectio divina. His commentaries, as reflections through living their spirituality, are added as supplements. Otherwise this more portable Paperback version scales down the Hardback with a more condensed layout for the texts of the Odes and excludes Jyoti Sahi’s Illuminations and that artist-theologian’s commentaries.
