Description

Although every religion and culture has got its own indigenous set of codes of conduct and worship, all of them readily fall into the sphere of universality, because they indisputably teach and preach the necessity of the love, kindness, compassion and mercy in the world. The book aims at universality of religion inspired by the theological ideas of mercy proposed by Cardinal Walter Kasper. He says that Christ the mercy-incarnate is the point of encounter for humanity, and he is the perfect model who could lead everyone to that terminus of universality, where people of various faiths will live in harmony like brothers and sisters. In attempting to substantiate this position of Kasper, the thesis analyses in depth the contemporary theological accounts of mercy from the viewpoints of various world religions. In addition, apart from dealing with the scriptural, historical and ecumenical foundations concerning the topic, together with the views of classical, scholastic and modern theologians, the thesis focuses to some extent also the pluralistic ideas of Paul F Knitter and John H Hick.
